Understanding Group Types

The group type handling is particularly sensitive related to how the Online Community understands your AMS/CRM (Association Management System / Customer Relationship Management) Database integration. You should most likely never have to change a group type.

Typical integrations expect the following:

  • User Created - no special handling, this is considered a Stand Alone group that may only exist in the Online Community and not synchronize with any legacy system.

  • Task Force - reserved for synchronization, but in most installations will handle the same as User Created.

  • Association / Section - reserved for synchronization, but in most installations will handle the same as User Created.

  • Chapter - reserved for synchronization, but in most installations will handle the same as User Created; sensitive for CDS AM.NET (AMS)

  • Committee - reserved for synchronization and commonly used.  This is the default for synchronization of groups and is sensitive in all integration scenarios.  You should most likely never change a group with this type to anything else, or change anything else to this group type.

  • Company - reserved for synchronization and commonly used for company/organization type groups. You should most likely never change a group with this type to anything else, or change anything else to this group type.

  • Interest - reserved for synchronization, but in most installations will handle the same as User Created; sensitive for CDS AM.NET (AMS) usually

  • Course - reserved for synchronization and commonly used for courses, events, webinars. This is mostly used in Conference mode. You should most likely never change a group with this type to anything else, or change anything else to this group type.

  • Subscription - reserved for synchronization, but in most installations will handle the same as User Created.

  • Vendor - reserved for synchronization and commonly used for vendors/sponsors. This is mostly used in Conference mode. You should most likely never change a group with this type to anything else, or change anything else to this group type.

Preventing Confusion

If you are trying to change the group type because of how it affects display in the Online Community, please consider disabling group type display:
