Connect: Reviewing your new Community

Homepage Section Area

The homepage section can be customized; however, it typically involves some HTML coding, so it is recommended that you provide a description of changes, including text copy, and a background image you’d like.  The Search menu can also be changed if desired.

An example background image size is: 1580x935.  Keep in mind that depending on the screen size and orientation, images will clip and scale.  This is particularly important for images including faces, as they may appear less natural when clipped in certain ways.

In the homepage top area you can have a single image, a slider with several images, an image that covers the entire background of the homepage, a search bar. Some examples below:

Admin (mobile app or smaller screens click on Pages to open the drop down)> Organization > Manage Theme> Theme > Homepage

Homepage Content

Your community can be customized; however, for best results, our support staff should be asked to make these changes.  You can provide a description of what you’d like, or some stock HTML we can ensure will function correctly within the community.

You can customize the content yourself if desired (or make minor changes) via:

  1. Admin > Custom Content > Content Areas > Create New, or click on the content labelled appropriately.  Make your changes and publish them.  If the content is already assigned, skip the next step.
  2. After creating your new content area, you can assign it via: Admin > Organization > Theme > Content tab > Homepage Top / Homepage Bottom.  Start typing the name of the Content area you created, and select it once it appears in the suggestion list.

The homepage lists are automatically generated.  The user can customize these (drag and drop, change colors, minimize, etc.).  This cannot be customized as defaults, since only content relevant to the user is displayed.  Improvements and good ideas are always welcome, as we are currently interested in particularly improving this area.

Advanced Customizations

Custom Section Headers

Headers for each type of page may be customized.  This is an advanced feature intended for people who can code HTML; otherwise, it is recommended a description of changes be sent to our support staff.

  1. Start by creating or editing a header via: Admin > Custom Content > Manage Headers.

  1. You can select the header to override in the Header field.  Use the Import button to pull in the existing content, for further customization.  You may want to use the HTML editing view for this due to advanced CSS changes and symbol replacements.

  1. Publish your changes to apply if the header already exists, otherwise you’ll need to apply the header by going to Admin > Organization > Theme > Headers tab.  Simply adding the custom Header to this list will publish it to the web and mobile app.
