Starting new Topics and Replying by Email

You can start topics or reply to them entirely through Email.  There are various links in each email for convenience.

Old email format

  • Use the Post a new discussion link to start a new thread/topic.
  • Use the Reply by e-mail link to reply, or use your native reply button option to respond to the particular thread.

New email format

  • Post a new thread/topic using the Post New Discussion button
  • Reply to the thread using the Reply to Group button
  • Reply directly to the person using the Message button

Setting up a Vanity email address

You can also configure a custom email address for use with any group, using the Display e-mail address (or Vanity e-mail address in newer versions) field in the group profile.

Go to the group page, click the Update Profile button, or use the Manage Group left menu > Update Profile link.

Under the General tab you’ll find these settings.  After changing them, click Save Profile to apply.  Note: for the custom email address to work you must use the same sub domain as your community installation.  For example: custom-email@connect.mydomain.org

When people send emails to this custom email address, it will post new topics/threads.  Reply email addresses are not custom and look something like: forum-123@connect.mydomain.org.
